Ducks in the Pond
Ducks in the Pond
Ducklings born from speckled eggs,
Live in nests and for food must beg,
From mother birds who know so well,
Food comes to those who excel,
In opening mouths not hearts so wide,
No secret loves do they need to hide,
With time the fluffy novice grows,
Academic webs between its toes,
Sufficient to buck departmental storms,
Mother duck following prevailing norms,
Leads the flock across the pond,
Never appearing to be too fond.
Now with wings the fledglings fly,
Mother duck admonishes, “Not too high,
Emotions will always be a liability,
Academe thrives on cold ability,
Ducks are only aquatic machines,
Despite the romance being a duck seems.”
